A poetic investigation of nature

When breeze rustles the leaves, when water splashes against the rocks, when birds tweet on the branches, poets weave a new poem in their minds. Each sound is like an alphabet which constructs a masterpiece.

The untouched wilderness has enchanted man and since time immemorial, inspired him to write about it. Nature is one of the most treasured muses that has inspired creative endeavours. The urge of describing it has always been there and is manifested in the form of various literary marvels like the Canaanite mythical “Poem of Aqhat”, Hesiod’s Works and Days, John Milton’s pastoral elegy “Lycidas”, John Denham’s “Cooper’s Hill”.

Nature stirs up diverse sensations, which a poet translates into words. Sitting in nature’s lap, one tends to forget all the miseries of the world. The tired souls seek solace in the majestic mountains, in front of which all the hardships look very trivial. Poets are extremely sensitive to their emotions, to the melancholy and equally to what brings them peace. They have an insatiable eye which perforates beyond the objects of their gaze. They acknowledge and appreciate the natural majesty that surrounds them. While expressing themselves, they construct images with which their memory and imagination is steeped. The poems bring the readers a sense of peace and tranquility which the poets had felt. It helps them reanimate the bond they share with nature and the peace transcends their spirit.

Not only poets but all artists are very important in our society. Even when our forays into nature become limited, we can still find solace and recenter our spirit through poems written about it.

Being a poet, I myself wrote my first poem after staring at a beautiful lily for an hour. The intricacies of its construction and the perishable nature incited the poet inside me. The beauty of nature has an immense influence on a poet’s mind. With their piercing eyes, they acutely observe each aspect of it which other people might not fully notice. They observe a flower right from when it is a bud, how it awakens from its slumber, underneath the green sheets and bursts open into a flower with striking colors. A poet even translates the death of a flower into a beautiful poem.

Nature is relative and impressionistic. I’ve always felt a profound connection with it , a sense of belonging. In the seemingly insignificant things, I feel an abiding sense of the Divine nearness. Nature is like a painting whose each hue speaks about its Creator. As long as the eyes behold the painting, the soul feels closer to God. The majestic mountains, the snow white clouds, the trees, the water gushing in the streams, all are like the verses of a poem God has gifted our Earth with.

Hence everything whether animate or inanimate, the subtle reflections of God let sprout the quiet poets in us, and we don’t only feel the nature, we sing it, we scream it, we breathe it, we wear it with our hands and play it through our eyes.
